Alabama Waterdog vs. Gulf Coast Waterdog
The two waterdogs meet at the Fall Line on the Black Warrior; above it only the Alabama Waterdog. A: Spots on the sides bigger than those on the back, in a single row joined to the dark eye stripe in the Alabama Waterdog; many spots scattered over back and sides, often joined into a tan net in the Gulf Coast Waterdog. B: Reddish to dark brown, plain between the spots in the Alabama Waterdog; dark brown made paler by the tan spots in the Gulf Coast Waterdog. Newly hatched Alabama Waterdogs are boldly striped chocolate and cream. The Alabama Waterdog is federally endangered.
