Chinese Softshell Turtle vs. Spiny Softshell
Both are flat, leathery softshells with a snorkel snout. Feel or look at the front edge of the shell above the neck: the Spiny Softshell has small cone-shaped spines there; the Chinese Softshell is smooth, with at most one to a few blunt knobs. The Spiny Softshell also has a pale stripe edged in black from the eye down the neck, which the Chinese Softshell lacks. The Chinese Softshell is a released Asian food and pet turtle, smaller when grown.
