Common Side-blotched Lizard vs. Western Fence Lizard

The Side-blotched Lizard is a small lizard of Idaho's southwestern deserts. A: it has a dark blue-black blotch on each side just behind the front leg (sometimes faint); the Western Fence Lizard has none there. B: its back scales are tiny and grainy; the Western Fence Lizard's are large, keeled and spiny. The Side-blotched Lizard also has a fold of skin right across the throat. Males of the spiny lizards have blue belly patches; male Side-blotched Lizards are often flecked with blue above.
