Dixie Caverns Salamander vs. Blacksburg Salamander
The two Virginia members of the Wehrle's group, a few miles apart at the Roanoke and Montgomery county line. A: Thick gold (brassy) flecks, often a broad rough band down the back in the Dixie Caverns Salamander; slate-blue with white flecks and silvery mottling, no gold band in the Blacksburg Salamander. B: None in the Dixie Caverns Salamander; small orange-red spots scattered on the back in the Blacksburg Salamander. Both have well-webbed hind feet; the Blacksburg's belly is slate-blue with white blotches running onto it from the sides.
