Ensatina vs. California Tiger Salamander
Blotched Ensatinas are black and yellow like the California Tiger Salamander; their records overlap in the Sierra foothills and Coast Ranges. A: Big yellow or orange blotches, few in the Ensatina; many smaller round pale yellow or white spots in the California Tiger Salamander. B: Narrow head, big bulging eyes in the Ensatina; broad, rounded snout and small eyes in the California Tiger Salamander. The Ensatina's tail is pinched in at the base; the tiger salamander is much bigger and stockier.
