Compare two species

Flat-headed Snake vs. Common Wormsnake

Both are tiny, smooth, glossy brown snakes with a pink belly, found under rocks and logs in southern Illinois. The Flat-headed Snake has a flattened head slightly darker than the body and normal-sized eyes; its salmon-pink belly fades at the edges. The Common Wormsnake has a small head no darker than the body, tiny eyes, a sharp spine on the tail tip, and the pink of its belly runs up onto the lower sides.
