Island Glass Lizards share the Sand Skink's sand pine scrub on the central ridges. A: Tiny legs: one toe in front, two behind in the Florida Sand Skink; no legs at all in the Island Glass Lizard. B: No groove along the side; plain, shiny grey-tan in the Florida Sand Skink; a deep groove along each side, with one bold dark stripe just above it in the Island Glass Lizard. C: Tiny: 4 to 5 in in the Florida Sand Skink; big: 15 to 24 in in the Island Glass Lizard. Both are legless-looking lizards with eyelids, not snakes. The Sand Skink swims through loose sand and is rarely seen on top.
