Georgetown Salamander vs. Salado Salamander
A groundwater divide between Salado Creek and Berry Creek separates them: the Salado Salamander in a few springs at Salado (Bell County), the Georgetown Salamander in the San Gabriel springs to the south. A: Large eyes with a gold iris in the Georgetown Salamander; smaller, reduced eyes in the Salado Salamander. B: A broad, short head with a short, rounded snout in the Georgetown Salamander; a relatively long, flat head with a blunt, rounded snout in the Salado Salamander. C: Grey with brown spots and silvery flecks in the Georgetown Salamander; grey-brown with a cinnamon tinge and only tiny pale flecks; no clear dark spots in the Salado Salamander. The Georgetown Salamander also has a dark border along the edge of the tail fin; the Salado's lower tail fin is weak.
