Mexican Burrowing Toad vs. Sheep Frog
Both live underground in extreme southern Texas and come up only after heavy rain; both have a line down the back. A: A red-orange stripe down the middle of a black or purplish back in the Mexican Burrowing Toad; a thin yellow or orange line down the middle of a brown back in the Sheep Frog. B: Dark purplish-black with scattered orange spots in the Mexican Burrowing Toad; brown to reddish, with dark marks on the sides in the Sheep Frog. The Mexican Burrowing Toad is bigger (2 to 3.5 in against 1 to 1.75 in), with a tiny cone-shaped head, and moans 'whoooa'; the Sheep Frog bleats like a sheep.
