Compare two species

Panamint Rattlesnake vs. Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake

Split from one species; their records meet in the Mojave Desert mountains (San Bernardino County). A: Clear crossbands, finely speckled in the Panamint Rattlesnake; speckled bands that blur into the ground colour in the Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake. B: Plain, finely speckled in the Panamint Rattlesnake; heavily speckled and blotched in the Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake. In hand, the scales just behind the nostril touch the snout-tip scale in the Panamint, but are separated by small scales in the Speckled; no open photo shows the Panamint's snout scales clearly. Range decides most of the time. Both very venomous.
