Compare two species

Rough Greensnake vs. Smooth Greensnake

Both are plain bright green. Zoom in on the back: a Rough Greensnake's scales each have a ridge down the middle, giving a slightly matte texture; a Smooth Greensnake's are smooth and glossy. The Rough is longer and very slender, and climbs in shrubs and vines, often over water. The Smooth is smaller, stays on the ground in grassy meadows, and in Indiana is found only in the northwest.
