Small-mouthed Salamander vs. Streamside Salamander
These two cannot be told apart by looking at the animal — both have the small head and short blunt snout. Streamside was described on its breeding and genetics: it glues its eggs one by one under flat stones in small rocky streams, and in Indiana it lives only in the southeast. Small-mouthed breeds in ponds and ditches. Where you found it is the evidence.
