Southern Cricket Frog vs. Cajun Chorus Frog
Cajun Chorus Frogs live in the same wet pine flatwoods and ditches (a record within 10 km of 68 of 124 Louisiana Southern Cricket Frog records); both are small brown frogs with dark marks down the back. A: Warty, rough skin in the Southern Cricket Frog; smooth skin in the Cajun Chorus Frog. B: A dark triangle between the eyes, often a pale or coloured stripe down the back in the Southern Cricket Frog; three dark stripes or rows of dashes down the back; no triangle in the Cajun Chorus Frog. C: Dark bars along the lip and a pale bar from the eye to the jaw in the Southern Cricket Frog; a clean white line along the whole upper lip, under a dark stripe through the eye in the Cajun Chorus Frog. Chorus frogs call in late winter with a rising trill like a thumb run along a comb; cricket frogs click like pebbles, mostly from spring to fall.
