The two meet on Balsam Mountain and Hyatt Ridge, where the Smokies join the Balsams, and hybridise there (hybrids show a little red on the cheeks). A: Paler grey, no red, orange or yellow in the Southern Gray-cheeked Salamander; a red, orange or yellow patch on each cheek in the Red-cheeked Salamander.
