Compare two species

Western Rattlesnake vs. Western Glossy Snake

Both are blotched snakes of grassland and scrub, and glossy snakes are often killed as rattlesnakes; their records overlap widely. A: Small and narrow, hardly wider than the neck; no pit in the Western Glossy Snake; broad and triangular, much wider than the thin neck; a pit between the eye and nostril in the Western Rattlesnake. The glossy snake's tail is thin and pointed, with no rattle. The rattlesnake is venomous: leave it alone.
