Yuman Desert Fringe-toed Lizard vs. Zebra-tailed Lizard

Both run over the dunes and sand flats of the Yuma Desert. A: Tiny orange spots, each inside a black net, over a sand-coloured back in the Yuman Desert Fringe-toed Lizard; grey or tan with faint spots, and two black bars on the side of the belly in the Zebra-tailed Lizard. B: Short legs; a fringe of pointed scales on the hind toes in the Yuman Desert Fringe-toed Lizard; very long, thin legs and no toe fringes in the Zebra-tailed Lizard. The Zebra-tailed Lizard curls up a black-and-white banded tail when it stops; fringe-toed lizards dive into loose sand.
