Banded Rock Lizard vs. Granite Spiny Lizard
Both live on the granite boulders of the desert slopes in San Diego and Riverside counties; their records overlap there. A: Tiny, smooth and grain-like in the Banded Rock Lizard; big, keeled and spiny in the Granite Spiny Lizard. B: One narrow black collar edged pale in the Banded Rock Lizard; a broad black bar across the shoulders in the Granite Spiny Lizard. The Banded Rock Lizard is also very flat, built to slip into cracks, with dark bands right down its long tail.
