Big Spring Legless Lizard vs. Bakersfield Legless Lizard
Their ranges do not meet: springs on the Mojave side of the southern Sierra (Big Spring) vs the southern San Joaquin Valley floor (Bakersfield). A: A DOUBLE dark stripe low on each side, unbroken from the head to the tail tip in the Big Spring Legless Lizard; a single black side stripe in the Bakersfield Legless Lizard. B: Vivid yellow, the sides yellow too in the Big Spring Legless Lizard; greyish red (looks purple) in the Bakersfield Legless Lizard. The double side stripe is the only body mark; otherwise range decides. RANGE IS THE SUREST WAY TO TELL THEM APART: where you are decides which one it is; the rows below help confirm it.
