Big Spring Legless Lizard vs. Northern Legless Lizard
Their ranges do not meet: springs on the Mojave side of the southern Sierra (Big Spring) vs the Coast Ranges, Bay Area and Sierra foothills (Northern). A: A DOUBLE dark stripe low on each side, unbroken from the head to the tail tip in the Big Spring Legless Lizard; a single dark side stripe (if double, it never runs the whole length) in the Northern Legless Lizard. The double side stripe is the only body mark; otherwise range decides. RANGE IS THE SUREST WAY TO TELL THEM APART: where you are decides which one it is; the rows below help confirm it.
