Bird-voiced Treefrog vs. Gray Treefrog
Both are grey, green or brown treefrogs with a dark lichen-like blotch on the back and a pale spot under the eye, and both change colour. The thigh settles it: as the frog jumps or is held, the Gray Treefrog flashes bright orange-yellow mottled with dark on the hidden surface of the thigh; the Bird-voiced Treefrog's is pale green, greenish-yellow or whitish. The Bird-voiced is also smaller and slimmer. By ear there is no contest: the Bird-voiced gives a rapid run of clear bird-like whistles, wit-wit-wit, the Gray Treefrog a slow musical trill.
