Mabee's Salamander vs. Atlantic Coast Slimy Salamander
Both are dark salamanders with pale flecks on the sides, under logs round the same coastal plain ponds and swamps. A: A small head with a rounded snout, on a short, stout body in the Mabee's Salamander; an ordinary head on a long, slim body in the Atlantic Coast Slimy Salamander. B: Silvery-white flecks massed into a mottled band low on the sides in the Mabee's Salamander; separate small white or yellowish spots in the Atlantic Coast Slimy Salamander. Slimy salamanders leave a glue on the hands; Mabee's has very long, slender toes.
