Mexican White-lipped Frog vs. Mexican Treefrog
Both have pale marks on the lip and call from the same flooded resacas and ditches of the Lower Rio Grande Valley. A: A bold white stripe along the upper lip, from below the eye to the shoulder in the Mexican White-lipped Frog; only a pale spot or bar on the lip below the eye, inside a broad dark mask in the Mexican Treefrog. B: Slim toes with no pads in the Mexican White-lipped Frog; big, round toe pads in the Mexican Treefrog. C: Ridges down the back in the Mexican White-lipped Frog; a smooth back with no ridges in the Mexican Treefrog. Calls differ: a rising whistle ('whoit') from the White-lipped Frog; nasal, honking 'wonk' notes from the treefrog.
