Pond Slider vs. River Cooter
Two big river turtles with yellow on the shell. Behind the eye a Pond Slider has a red patch; a River Cooter has only stripes. On the shell, the Slider has broad yellow bars on each plate; the Cooter has pale lines that curve into a C-shape on the second plate along each side. The Cooter is known in Indiana only from big rivers in the far southwest; the Slider is common almost everywhere.
