Rio Grande Chirping Frog vs. Greenhouse Frog
Two tiny garden frogs spread in potted plants; they now live side by side in Houston and the coastal towns. A: A dark mask: a band from the nostril through the eye to the eardrum in the Rio Grande Chirping Frog; no dark mask: the snout and face reddish, with a pale bar between the eyes in the Greenhouse Frog. B: Grey to tan with dark flecks in the Rio Grande Chirping Frog; reddish brown, finely bumpy and mottled in the Greenhouse Frog. C: No pale stripes down the back in the Rio Grande Chirping Frog; often two pale stripes down the back (the striped form) in the Greenhouse Frog. The calls are much alike: soft chirps (the Greenhouse Frog's more like a bird's twitter).
