River Frog vs. Gopher Frog
Gopher Frogs breed in the ponds of the same far-south pinelands that River Frogs' river swamps run through. A: Dark brown to greyish olive, without a pale ground colour in the River Frog; pale, crowded with dark spots in the Gopher Frog. B: No ridges down the back in the River Frog; a prominent ridge along each side of the back in the Gopher Frog. River Frogs sit on the banks of river swamps facing the water; Gopher Frogs hide in gopher tortoise burrows in sandhills.
