Texas Salamander vs. Cascade Caverns Salamander

They share the Cibolo and Guadalupe country north of San Antonio (Bexar, Kendall and Comal counties), the Texas Salamander mostly in springs, the Cascade Caverns Salamander in caves and cave-fed springs. A: Big, dark-ringed eyes and a rounded head in the Texas Salamander; rather small eyes and a broad, flattened head in the Cascade Caverns Salamander. B: Yellowish-brown with fine pale flecks in the Texas Salamander; pale grey-brown with faint mottling; cave animals almost white in the Cascade Caverns Salamander. Spring-dwelling Cascade Caverns animals are darker and can look just like a Texas Salamander; then only the spring (and genetics) tells them apart.
