Chattahoochee Slimy Salamander vs. Southern Appalachian Salamander
The two meet along the Georgia line in Cherokee, Clay and Macon counties, and may hybridise there (NC Parks). A: Many white or yellow spots along the sides in the Chattahoochee Slimy Salamander; only some bigger white spots low on the sides in the Southern Appalachian Salamander. B: Few or no spots on the back in the Chattahoochee Slimy Salamander; a few small white spots on the back in the Southern Appalachian Salamander. Place matters as much as any mark: pure Chattahoochee Slimies may not live in North Carolina at all.
