Desert Kingsnake vs. Speckled Kingsnake
They meet and mix in central and western Texas, where intergrades are common. A: Thin yellow crossbands across a black back in the Desert Kingsnake; no crossbands: an even salt-and-pepper of pale dots in the Speckled Kingsnake. B: Speckled yellow on the sides, the back more solidly black in the Desert Kingsnake; a pale dot in nearly every scale, back and sides alike in the Speckled Kingsnake. Where they meet, range is the best guide: west of central Texas (Desert) vs east (Speckled).
