Piedmont Dusky Salamander vs. Wolf Dusky Salamander

The two lowland duskies of southern Virginia meet in the Roanoke and Meherrin drainages; NC Parks has never found them in the same stream. A: A clean brownish to dull yellow stripe with well-marked dark edges in the Piedmont Dusky Salamander; granite-like grey-brown speckling; the stripe fades with age in the Wolf Dusky Salamander. B: Usually a strong pale line from the eye to the jaw in the Piedmont Dusky Salamander; the pale line often weak in Virginia in the Wolf Dusky Salamander. The Piedmont Dusky is smaller and slimmer. Judge several from the stream, and go by the drainage.
