Pigeon Mountain Salamander vs. Northern Slimy Salamander
Northern Slimy Salamanders live on Pigeon Mountain too, in the woods round the Pigeon Mountain Salamander's rocks. A: Heavy brassy to gold flecks running together into a broad band down the back in the Pigeon Mountain Salamander; glossy black with separate small white or silvery spots in the Northern Slimy Salamander. B: White spots low on the sides, set off below the brassy band in the Pigeon Mountain Salamander; the same white spots on the back and sides alike, with no band in the Northern Slimy Salamander. Both leave sticky slime on the hands. The Pigeon Mountain Salamander lives in limestone cracks, talus and cave mouths on the east side of Pigeon Mountain only, and is protected in Georgia.
