Western Fence Lizard vs. Plateau Fence Lizard
Both are spiny grey-brown fence lizards with blue belly patches in males. A: the Western Fence Lizard has yellow or orange on the rear of the thighs and under the legs; the Plateau Fence Lizard usually lacks it. B: the Plateau Fence Lizard tends to have four crisp pale stripes flanking dark chevrons; the Western Fence Lizard's pattern is usually blotchier, with wavy bars and less distinct stripes. Both differences are tendencies. The Western Fence Lizard ranges from the Pacific states to Idaho and western Utah; the Plateau Fence Lizard from eastern Utah and Wyoming south. In Idaho, any fence lizard is a Western Fence Lizard.
