Atlantic Coast Leopard Frog vs. Northern Leopard Frog
Listen first. The Atlantic Coast Leopard Frog makes a short, single, repeated chuck or cluck, much like a Wood Frog or a chicken. The Northern makes a long, low, drawn-out snore lasting several seconds, often followed by rapid stuttering grunts. By eye, the back of the thigh: dark with small, isolated yellow or green patches on the Atlantic Coast; light with scattered dark spots (rarely the reverse) on the Northern. The Atlantic Coast is also duller, muted olive to bronze, with fewer and smaller spots; the Northern brighter, with more and larger spots.
