Pascagoula Dusky Salamander vs. Spotted Dusky Salamander
Pyron et al. (2022) found the two together at the type locality on Ward Bayou and name the Spotted Dusky as one of the only two salamanders likely to be confused with it. A: Bright orange or yellowish orange in the Pascagoula Dusky Salamander; usually faint and white in the Spotted Dusky Salamander. B: A plain reddish-brown stripe with faint angular (chevron) edges in the Pascagoula Dusky Salamander; paired square or round blotches in the Spotted Dusky Salamander. The Pascagoula's snout is blunt and rounded and its tail flattened into a heavy blade; the Spotted's snout is pointed like a duck's bill and its tail slimmer. The Spotted's sides are heavily flecked with light spots.
