Valentine's Southern Dusky Salamander vs. Spotted Dusky Salamander

Spotted Dusky Salamanders live by the seeps of the same eastern Florida Parishes (records 2 to 15 km from the three recent Louisiana Valentine's records). A: Brown or grey with only vague darker marks in the Valentine's Southern Dusky Salamander; six to eight pairs of golden or reddish spots, at least in younger animals in the Spotted Dusky Salamander. B: Two rows of small white porthole spots, the lower row bold in the Valentine's Southern Dusky Salamander; the dark side fading into a pale belly flecked with white in the Spotted Dusky Salamander. C: Hind legs only a little bigger than the front ones in the Valentine's Southern Dusky Salamander; hind legs much bigger than the front ones in the Spotted Dusky Salamander. Valentine's tail is more blade-like, often orange or red-brown at the base; it lives in the muck of baygall swamps, not spring runs.
