Sonoran Green Toad vs. Great Plains Toad

Both breed in rain pools and stock tanks of south-central Arizona after summer storms; both are green-and-dark blotched toads. A: Small green ovals inside a black net that covers the back in the Sonoran Green Toad; big dark blotches in matching pairs, each edged pale, on grey or olive in the Great Plains Toad. B: Weak or no crests on the head in the Sonoran Green Toad; crests forming a V between the eyes and meeting in a bony hump on the snout in the Great Plains Toad. Size helps: the Sonoran Green Toad is under 2.3 in; a grown Great Plains Toad reaches 5 in.
