Shenandoah Salamander vs. Eastern Red-backed Salamander

On Hawksbill, Stony Man and The Pinnacles the two meet where the talus gives way to deep soil; both come striped and plain. A: A narrow red stripe down the middle of a black back in the Shenandoah Salamander; a broad stripe with straight edges, covering most of the back in the Eastern Red-backed Salamander. B: Black all over, a little brassy on the back in the Shenandoah Salamander; lead-grey, finely speckled with white in the Eastern Red-backed Salamander. The Shenandoah's belly is dark with some white or yellow mottling, the Red-backed's an even salt-and-pepper; the Shenandoah has small white spots low on the sides.
