Squirrel Treefrog vs. Cope's Gray Tree Frog
Brown Squirrel Treefrogs with dark spots are taken for small gray treefrogs in eastern Texas and the Gulf states. A: Smooth skin with small, scattered dark spots in the Squirrel Treefrog; warty skin with big dark blotches like lichen in the Cope's Gray Treefrog. B: Plain yellowish, with no dark mottling or spots (hidden until the leg is stretched) in the Squirrel Treefrog; bright yellow-orange with dark mottling in the Cope's Gray Treefrog. Cope's has a white spot under the eye; the Squirrel Treefrog does not. Cope's call is a fast, harsh trill.
