Illinois Chorus Frog vs. Spring Peeper
Both are small frogs that call on cold nights in late winter and early spring. The Illinois Chorus Frog is plump and toad-like with a short snout and stout forelegs for burrowing, dark spots in irregular rows down the back and a dark line through the eye; the Spring Peeper is slim with a dark X between the shoulders. By ear the Illinois Chorus Frog gives a series of clear, high, bird-like whistles, the Peeper a single rising peep.
