Illinois Chorus Frog vs. Western Chorus Frog
Both are early-spring chorus frogs of central and southern Illinois. The Illinois Chorus Frog is plump and toad-like with a short snout, stout forelegs for burrowing, and dark spots in irregular rows down the back; the Western Chorus Frog is slim with three broad, continuous dark stripes down the back and a bold dark stripe from the snout through the eye. By ear the Illinois Chorus Frog gives clear, high, bird-like whistles, the Western a rasp like a thumb run down a comb.
