Illinois Chorus Frog vs. Upland Chorus Frog
Both are early-spring chorus frogs that meet in the southern tip of Illinois, and both can be spotted rather than striped. The Illinois Chorus Frog is plump and toad-like with a short snout and stout forelegs for burrowing, its dark spots larger and in irregular rows; the Upland Chorus Frog is slim and long-legged, with thin dark lines broken into dashes or small spots and a white line along the upper lip. By ear the Illinois Chorus Frog gives clear, high, bird-like whistles, the Upland a rasp like a thumb run down a comb.
