Illinois Chorus Frog vs. Boreal Chorus Frog
Both are chorus frogs of early spring in the Illinois River valley. The Illinois Chorus Frog is plump and toad-like with a short snout, stout forelegs for burrowing, and dark spots in irregular rows down the back; the Boreal Chorus Frog is slim with three dark stripes or rows of dashes down the back and a bold dark stripe from the snout through the eye. By ear the Illinois Chorus Frog gives clear, high, bird-like whistles, the Boreal a rasp like a thumb run down a comb.
