Compare two species

Mississippi Green Watersnake vs. Common Watersnake

Two heavy watersnakes of the southern tip. The Common Watersnake is banded near the head and blotched down the body at every age; the Mississippi Green Watersnake is plain dark olive-green to brown with only faint marks, even when young. Up close, the Mississippi Green has a row of small scales between the eye and the upper lip, so the eye does not touch the lip; its belly is dark with pale half-moons and its chin and throat yellow.
